I had been following this pride of lion as part of a two year project and had come to learn their behaviour and preference for hunting buffalo during this time. So when a herd of buffalo arrived on the Savute marsh, I quickly repositioned myself, anticipating that the pride would attack. They quickly identified this one-horned individual and I only had a few seconds to capture the horror and fear of its last moments. The buffalo's panicked expression was in stark contrast with the sedate pace of the approaching lion in the foreground, who was so supremely confident in the outcome of the attack, that he deemed it wasn't even necessary for him to help the rest of the pride in the hunt.
